The biennale will focus on aspects of hospitality in daily life that generally take place in the privacy of the home. As part of the exhibition "Hosting - 2008", the public space will replace the domestic living room. A series of “Outdoor Rooms” located in open sites around the city will act as points of contact and creativity for hosts and guests. Top-level international and local artists as well as architects and landscape architects have been invited to design each outdoor room as an extension of the home. Architecture and design schools will be integrated into the urban activities. Input will also come from local residents’ organizations and community centers. Planning will be based on ecological thinking, on mixing the natural with the synthetic, and on the use of indigenous vegetation and recycled materials.
"Hosting -2008" expects to welcome thousands of visitors from Israel and abroad. Professionals and the general public will be invited to visit the various “Rooms”, and join in activities that will be held in them during the day and at night. The rooms will be connected by urban corridors: pedestrian walkways, bicycle paths, and a special shuttle bus. As they get to know each other and learn about the hosting customs of diverse communities, visitors and hosts will be part of an urban festival that will also enable them to enjoy springtime and nature in an urban environment.
