Hosting – 2008
The 1st Bat-Yam Biennale of Landscape Urbanism focused on aspects of hospitality in daily life, that generally take place in the privacy of the home. During "Hosting", open urban space asked to replace the domestic living room.
A series of “outdoor rooms” located in open sites around the city acted as meeting points and areas for and creativity, for both hosts and guests. International and local designers, architects and artists created each outdoor room as an extension of domestic space. Local individuals and groups collaborated with the designers on different levels, inviting artists into their homes, participating in planning meetings and voicing their needs and wants.

These outdoor rooms were connected by diverse urban corridors, including pedestrian walkways, bicycle paths, and a special shuttle bus.
The first biennale has set ecological thinking as an essential basis in Bat-Yam's urban planning, encouraging the use of indigenous vegetation, recycled materials and exploring the relationship between the natural and the synthetic.
"Hosting" welcomed thousands of visitors from Israel and abroad.
